The City of Boulder City’s Response to the Corona Virus

THERE ARE UPDATES TO THIS POST IN RED BELOW.

Stay Calm and Wash Your Hands.

It is truly difficult to believe that this crazy Corona Virus (COVID-19) situation has evolved to this point, but nonetheless – here we are. In order to help residents and the City government be prepared for this rapidly changing environment, and adapt and keep the citizens informed, the City held a meeting yesterday, March 12th at 1pm. You can watch this full 23 minute video HERE – and actually we really recommend that you do, if for no other reason than to watch a very, very informative video on the CV from the Centers for Disease Control(CDC). It plays shortly after the 7 minute mark.

OK – but what do you need to know locally?

City of Boulder City Info

The City of Boulder City along with all of the municipalities in Clark County have now declared a State of Emergency. This entire response is about being proactive and driven by an abundance of caution to be prepared. The City has set up a huge resource page for everyone HERE. It’s packed full of regional information from the Southern Nevada Health District as well as the CDC with tips on everything from how to stay healthy, current case numbers in Clark County and other info. Note, to date we have had NO Corona Virus cases in Boulder City that we’re currently aware of.

Also Closing:

  • Boulder City Aquatic Center
  • Boulder City Arts Center
  • Boulder City Fitness Center
  • Boulder City Youth and Adult Sports Programs
  • Boulder City Youth Center
  • Special Classes
  • All large-scale events in City Parks

The City Parks themselves remain open normal hours from 5am to 10pm. Officials recommend staying a safe distance from others, and to utilize the facilities for good hygiene and hand washing.

Local Events Impact

As of now, we’ve heard of a few cancellations for events around town in Boulder City:

The Boulder City/Hoover Dam Museum is cancelling their Third Thursday event planned for next Thursday the 19th. Again, this is due to concerns about folks being in closed quarters during this presentation. Although the Museum itself is still open. The Museum and Restaurant will be closed as of Tuesday, March 17th. However the Boulder Dam Hotel will remain open.

The Boulder City Library sent us the announcement yesterday, that out of an abundance of caution they are cancelling all library programs for the remainder of March, including events put on by 3rd party organizers. They are open all normal hours. The Library has announced they will be closed as of Monday, March 16th. They ask you not attempt to return any items and all late fees will be waived.

Rock Roll & Stroll as of this moment, has been postponed, and a date will be reset for a future time.

The Boulder City Beerfest (oh no!) is sadly just as of this morning announcing that they will postpone their event, a future date is TBD.

The Boulder City Easter Egg Hunt (Ohhhhh no!) is also cancelled, again due to an abundance of caution given we don’t want those kiddos at risk.

Still On:

The Big Clean as of now is still planned to continue. The Big Clean has now been postponed.

The Wine Walks will go on as planned in March and April.

The Swing For Life Golf Tournament fundraiser for the Hospital Auxiliary will be held. This event has been postponed.

The Best Dam Barbecue and Spring Jam are also still planned to run as scheduled, as of this publication date and time.

Schools

As of yesterday, March 15th the Governor has announced the closure of all schools in Clark County. Most of you parents already know about and monitor things on the Clark County School District (CCSD) web site. We hear they are sending out updates for parents signed up to receive such messages twice daily. We know that all of our local principals are working with their teachers and staff to be prepared to send work home with their kids, should classed become suspended.

Boulder City’s Tiny Tots and Safe Key programs are temporarily closing beginning Monday, March 16th through Monday, April 13th.

Final Thoughts

Let’s all remember to be patient and supportive of each other, our organizations, and businesses in town. Be sensible, enjoy ourselves and take some basic precautions – less hugging and more waving, fist and elbow bumping, etc. Let’s also remember to be grateful we live in Southern Nevada: our fellow citizens elsewhere in Kentucky, for example, are dealing with all of this and trying to survive crazy storms and tornadoes, nor are we being forced to move out of our dorm room in 5 days flat, nor are we in lock-down somewhere. We’re lucky. And lastly, I couldn’t part without adding just a little Instagram humor into this post as well.
