We first told you about Jessica Ruiz Whittaker and her adorable quilt shop, Silver State Stitch Shop, back in 2024, HERE. Well, here it is, almost exactly one year later and things have certainly changed for this one-of-a-kind shop here in Boulder City! Jessica recently packed up her store and moved it to 1229 Arizona Street. If that address sounds familiar, it should. It’s the site of the former quilt shop, Fiddlesticks, and most recently the home of Boulder City Florist. The new location is much larger than her previous area and she’s definitely taken advantage of the increased space!
Before moving in to the new spot, there were a lot of upgrades and renovations to be done. In the course of that construction, Jessica discovered a shout out to the past: a mural for a travel business painted on one wall of the structure. You can see a photograph of that below. In doing some research on the building, she discovered that sign dates back to approximately 1937/1938 – making it nearly a ninety years old! Jessica decided to incorporate the sign into the shop’s aesthetic, opting to leave the wall exposed for merchandising. The travel sign peeks out from among the fabrics and notions and gives you a sense of history of the place, and our town, which we love!
Jessica has been able to spread her wings a bit in the new location. You’ll find an expanded supply of quilting fabrics, cross stitch kits and supplies, fabric notions, tools, and all the other things quilters need to get their fix. The larger space also offers up more classroom area for the various classes hosted by Jessica and guest instructors. There’s a new 70″ television monitor installed that will help participants see the techniques being taught. Jessica mentioned that there are some special guests slated to visit and teach classes at the shop so make sure you stay tuned to their social media for details (HERE is the link to their Instagram).
In other exciting news, Silver State Stitch Shop recently won a global contest held by Annie.com’s Local Quilt Shop network as a Creative Hub. They look for independent quilt businesses and select winners based on customer reviews, products and classes offered. You can read more about it HERE. This honor is especially great, considering the shop has only been open about a year.
During the past year, Jessica also launched her online store, which you can check out HERE. There you will find a curated collection of goods for the novice and experienced quilter or cross stitch enthusiast. More information about classes can be found there as well.
Stop by and check out the new location 10:00AM to 4:30PM every day, with the exception of Sunday and Wednesday, when the shop is closed. They can be reached at (725) 296-0092.
