Today we’re excited to introduce you to another local author, talking to someone some of you may already know – local author Brenda Ewers. In case you’ve missed previous articles, we’ve learned that there are nearly two dozen authors locally here in town. But, there doesn’t really seem to be a way to easily find the books they’ve written or any local source for them to promote their work. We created this series to share the authors stories and to let all of you – prospective readers – get to hear about their works. (If you’ve missed our previous columns, we’ve got links for you at the bottom of this page.)
SHORT BIO:
I was born in Seldovia, Alaska to Norwegian parents who were salmon fishermen. We lived there several years and then moved to California where I went to school. After my graduation I went to nursing school and received my nursing degree. I worked ICU for several years and then worked in clinics. I married Scott Ewers and we raised three children. I have four wonderful grandchildren. We lived in Flagstaff, Arizona for 21 years and then moved to Henderson, Nevada in 2000. I retired from nursing in 2004 and began my writing career.
BOOKS:
My first published books is a six book series about the characters “Hedy and Howie”. I have written fifteen books and all my books are for children ages 2-5. The books are about caring, sharing, giving and helping. Thirteen of my books have been published. My illustrator is working on two of my books. He is Michael Derby and he lives in Boulder City.
INSPIRATION:
My inspiration for writing started during my high school years. I always enjoyed reading and I would pick up different writing techniques and the unique way of storytelling. On long road trips I would make up stories to our children to keep them entertained.
READERS INTEREST:
I hope my reader’s family find how important it is for children to learn about all the things that are very important to me (sharing, caring, giving and helping) and see the love friends have for each other.
PUBLISHING:
For the series “Hedy and Howie” I used Tate Publishing. For the rest of my books I used Mystic Publishing who uses Ingram Spark for the finishing product. My first publishing date is 2014.
CLASSES OR SEMINARS:
I have not taken any classes or seminars for my writing. I just get an idea and write according to my imagination.
LIVED IN BOULDER CITY:
We moved to Boulder City in 2006. I love the feeling of a small town. People are friendly and helpful. The history of our town is interesting. It is a beautiful place with a lake that offers entertainment and relaxation.
ABOUT MY WORK:
I write from my heart and imagination. I really enjoy watching a child’s face light up while reading one of my books.
We hope you’ve enjoyed this visit with Brenda! If you’ve missed any of our other interviews in this series, you can see all of these authors stories here:
