Stamp Out Hunger Week Begins!

Cities across the U.S. will participate in the 19th Annual Stamp Out Hunger National Food Drive on May 14th…but not Boulder City.  Why?  Because we rock with Stamp Out Hunger WEEK over at Albertsons starting tomorrow, May 9th and THEN we roll into the Letter Carriers’ drive on Saturday the 14th!

Since it starts tomorrow and runs through the entire week — let’s cover the Albertsons Food Drive first and say that 100% OF THE FOOD COLLECTED AT ALBERTSONS WILL BE DELIVERED TO BOULDER CITY EMERGENCY AID.

You can bring the below list to Albertsons and purchase as many items as you wish to leave in the barrel near the front entrance of the store.  Volunteers will be collecting food May 9th – 13th from 2pm – 6pm and all day on Saturday, May 14th.

You may also bring food from any other retailer to leave in the barrels — Albertsons will accept ALL food donations on behalf of Emergency Aid because the primary goal is to have their pantry overflowing with food, so this is a great opportunity to clean out your pantry!  Last year, Albertsons collected 7,500 pounds of food and of course, are looking to beat their own record!

Here is the list of items most needed:

  • Canned Meat
  • Canned Tuna
  • Canned Chili
  • Canned Vegetables
  • Canned Stew
  • Canned Fruit
  • Peanut Butter
  • Pasta
  • Pasta Sauce
  • Ramen Noodles
  • Cereal Boxes
  • Beans (Pinto)
  • Bisquick
  • Cereal (Hot or Cold)
  • Sugar
  • Flour

You can also donate $1, $5 or $10 at the Albertson’s register when you check out and have a “stamp” hung on the wall in your honor.

If you can’t make it up to the store this week, you can fill a grocery bag with food and leave it by your mailbox on Saturday, May 14th and your letter carrier will pick up the bag for you.

Statistics for Southern Nevada are that 1 in 6 individuals struggle with hunger…which equates to over 300,000 people.  And 50% of children in the Clark County School District receive a free or reduced-price meal at school each day.
