Here’s something fun from the Public Works Dept. – I saw it in a memo that comes out of City Hall and thought it would be fun to share!
“The nature discovery area of Bootleg Canyon Park was temporarily closed this week due to an invasion of giant animals! These huge creatures were funded through a Southern Nevada Public Lands Management Act grant and are a unique addition to the park.
When this park was first conceived over a decade ago, it was a place for people to go and learn about the Mojave Desert. Many native plants have been established and showcased in the park. The installation of the animals makes it a complete ecosystem learning opportunity, allowing visitors to learn about our desert home.
At the Council meeting where the agreement with the manufacturer (Universal Precast) was approved, several good suggestions were offered by Council. Public Works is working with Universal Precast to acquire and apply an anti-graffiti coating to the animals. Interpretive panels have been ordered to tell a brief story about the native flora and fauna of the region. These panels will also point out the dangers of getting too close to the desert wildlife.
The final phase of the Bootleg Canyon Park Phase II Improvements will include paving an accessible trail from the roundabout to the vista point overlooking El Dorado Valley. Upon completion of the work, this should be a nice attraction to draw tourist off of Interstate 11 through Boulder City for some photo opportunities.”
