This is probably one of our favorite historical stories in this series, because this is about the evolution of a local neighborhood.
This plaque is located in the parking lot of the River Mountain Foot Trail, which is on the west side of Boulder City Parkway, between Lakeview Dr. and the main parking lot for St. Jude’s Ranch for Children. McKeeversville, was one of the original tent cities during the early years of building Hoover Dam. As houses became available, residents in the area were encouraged to move up into town. But it seems that more than a few of these residents became attached to the land and wouldn’t budge. Then as WWII created yet new housing needs, more people continued to move into McKeeversville, despite the wishes of the Federal Government who still owned the land at that time.
Eventually though, when Boulder City became its own incorporated city, the government created a clause in that land transfer which would allow the folks who had stayed in the area to be able to buy their own land. According to our friend Mark Hall Patton, many of the homes had been hand built by those residents, and some remains are still in the area to this day.
