The City of Boulder City recently announced that they are seeking additional qualified persons to serve as Police Service Volunteers in support roles for the Police Department. These volunteers assist with tasks like patrol operations, neighborhood speed watch, vacation home checks, traffic hazard patrols and emergency call outs. Qualified applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Be at least eighteen (18) years of age
- Possess a valid Nevada Driver License and maintain a satisfactory driving record
- Have no felony convictions
- Have no misdemeanor convictions within two (2) years of filing application
- Possess competent written and verbal English skills
- Successfully complete the required background investigation requirements
- Be available for approximately ten (10) hours per month
Successful applicants may be asked to perform the following services, which will assist uniformed police officers to respond more effectively to enforcement and policing priorities.
- Patrol Operations: Patrolling the city, in uniform, in a marked “Volunteer” vehicle and on foot to serve as the “eyes and ears” of Boulder City Police Department. Volunteers work in pairs and report any suspicious activity.
- Business Emergency Contact Info Update: Contact businesses to maintain / update contact information for public safety dispatchers.
- Vacation Home Checks: Conduct physical inspections of residences on vacation, checking the exterior of the home for unlocked doors, open windows, or anything else out of the ordinary and / or suspicious.
- Field Traffic Control: Under the direction of a sworn police officer, assist with traffic control for parades, special events, etc. Volunteers wear a traffic vest and are not involved in any enforcement activity.
- Code Enforcement: Assist the Police Support Aide with Code Enforcement, investigating complaints, taking photographs of violations, writing reports and possibly issuing citations for violations.
- Traffic Hazard Patrol: Volunteers conduct patrols and identify traffic hazards (non-working street lights, obstructed street signs, missing manhole covers, potholes, etc.).
- Special Assignments / Events: Crowd and traffic control, as well as information resource at various special events and city activities throughout the year.
