Free Fishing Day Promises to be a Reel Good Time

The City of Boulder City, in conjunction with the Nevada Department of Wildlife (NDOW) are happy to announce that Saturday, June 11 they will be hosting a free fishing day at the Veterans Memorial Park Fishing Pond. Adults and children can fish for free from 7:30AM to 10:00AM. PREREGISTRATION IS REQUIRED. To preregister, CLICK HERE. For this event only, a fishing license is NOT required. Catch limits and other regulations will be enforced. No boats are allowed on the fishing pond.

Free Fishing Day is always the second Sunday in June. It gives local residents a chance to visit local fishing ponds and try their hands at the sport of fishing and maybe catch that evening’s dinner!

To help publicize the event, the state’s website says, “…all fourth and fifth grade students in Nevada are welcome to take part in our Free Fishing Day Poster Contest. This year’s winner is Gianne Rae Olea, fourth grade student at Explore Knowledge Academy in Las Vegas,” according to the NDOW website. Gianne’s poster is featured below.

According to the website, Take Me Fishing (CLICK HERE) the event offers the following benefits:

Free fishing days are a perfect opportunity for beginners to try out fishing for the first time. If you already have a fishing license, thank you for your purchase and for doing your part to support the efforts of your state fish and wildlife agency to make great fishing for current and future generations. Please also consider taking a friend or family member who has never been fishing, out on the water for the day.

City staff tell us, “Join us for the annual Free Fishing Day event at Veterans’ Memorial Park pond in Boulder City. We will have loaner equipment and bait, angling volunteers, prizes, and lots of fish! We will have activity stations around the upper pond as well.

Please register ahead of time (CLICK HERE), so check-in goes quick and we can get you on the water. Each angler needs to be registered to be entered for the drawing. Must be present to win.”

Sounds like a fun time to us! Make plans to head out to the fishing pond, located at 1650 Buchanan Boulevard. Please do not park on Buchanan Boulevard, that is a no-parking zone. Parking is available in the part and the fishing pond is a short, easy walk from the parking lot.
