Unofficial Election Tallies Show Hardy as Mayor, Walton on Council

Updated Election Primary Boulder City, Nevada

According to the latest results we have from City Clerk, Tami McKay sent to us in the wee hours, here are the latest election numbers which include the early voting and election day numbers, and ballots received by mail up through June 13th, but not any from received yet on June 14th. Any other mailed ballots postmarked by 7pm yesterday will still be tallied through June 18th. So these numbers below WILL continue to change. Here is a screen shot:

Boulder City, NV Primary Election Counts 6/14

Now let’s walk you through the numbers. Per the Boulder City Charter, any candidate who receives 50% or more of the number of votes cast can be shown as the winner of the Primary Election. Therefore, take that number of 4,343 cast ballots above and half that, equaling 2,171. Any one candidate who then has a vote tally ABOVE that number has won.

So currently we show that retiring Senator Joe Hardy will become our new Mayor with more than enough votes to qualify for that seat.

You also see Steve Walton with currently 2,464 votes also with enough votes to clinch that seat on City Council.

The balance of the race numbers we are still watching break down as follows. Two candidates will now advance to the November elections, competing for the remaining seat on City Council. One of those candidates will be Cokie Booth. However right now we feel like this second spot is maybe too close to call. You see Incumbent James Howard Adams in second place with 1,262 votes, but also Rose Marie Hess close behind still at 1,189 – only 73 votes separate the two. So for our part we’re going to keep watching these numbers daily as they continue to roll in. All votes must be counted by June 18th, so come the 19th is when final numbers will be visible, and then we’ll be able to say for certain who will run against Booth.

What we’ll say though is a HUGE THANK YOU to all the candidates who ran and thank them for their willingness to serve our community, and a CONGRATULATIONS to both Joe Hardy and Steve Walton!
