The National Park Service announced that wildfire training scooper flights would take place on Lake Mohave, weekdays (5:00AM to 5:00PM) from March 3 to 27, with the possibility of some flights continuing into the first week in April. Visitors to the lake are asked to make sure their watercraft are visible and/or stay near the shore during this period, to avoid potential accidents.
The press release continued:
“…wildland fire training flights will be conducted on Lake Mohave. Pilots are being trained to fly a Canadair CL-215T, scooping approximately 1400 gallons of water per scoop to drop onto BLM land. Pilots are trained to avoid watercraft, but please be proactive when boating in the middle of the lake this month.”
While we haven’t enjoyed great boating weather lately, we know that will change, and it’s important to be aware of activities that could impact a trip to the local lakes.
