Yarn Over BC Keeps Boulder City in Stitches

There’s a new store in town and it caters to those of us who are into fiber arts like crocheting and knitting. It’s called Yarn Over BC and it’s located in the Nevada Way Plaza at 1000 Nevada Way, Suite 109. They’re calling themselves the “best dam yarn shop in Boulder City” and we can’t disagree.

Behind the cheeky slogan is mother and daughter dynamic duo: Chrystal Dunbar and her daughter, Karissa Bass. Boulder City residents, they realized there was a need for this type of store to meet the demand of the many women, men, and children who enjoy knitting and crocheting. From the cutest stitch markers to the softest hand dyed indie yarn, they have something for every hobbyist. On our recent visit to their shop we looked around and asked a few questions. We weren’t disappointed.

First of all, both Chrystal and Karissa are delightful to interact with. The level of knowledge, combined with a wonderful customer service ethic should serve them well going forward. While we were there, several customers came in to inquire about the store’s offerings and left with satisfied smiles and supplies for their latest projects. There’s a sense of community among those who practice these fiber arts, and the enthusiasm they have for encouraging the family feeling is evident. In one section of the store, they even carry gently used items like needles (knitters) and hooks (crocheters), as well as yarns (of course) and other supplies that they offer for a discount.

A couple of things we found particularly interesting were the black light yarn and glow in the dark yarn. Both would be perfect for the upcoming festival season to stitch up a purse or some customized clothing to really shine. We even spotted some scented yarn! They also carry the beloved, more common brands, like Caron and Lily Sugar ‘n Cream yarns like you’d find at the big box stores – but BONUS, it’s actually just minutes away from your favorite place to craft.

They opened their doors on Saturday, February 25th and were met with excited shoppers eager to purchase their faves and rush home to begin their projects. The store is open five days a week (closed Wednesdays and Thursdays) from 11:00AM to 6:00PM.

While they get their stitches in a row, so to speak, they already have plans to expand the services they offer. They hope to start teaching crochet classes sometime in April, but in the meantime, you can stay informed about what’s happening at the store by stopping by and signing up for their email notification list.

For Chrystal, this is not her first go at being a business owner. She has another business, Fun Stuff Designs, that will be making appearances at the store with some handcrafted resin pieces, drinkware, and other goodies. She and Karissa were looking for an affordable opportunity to share their love for crocheting and knitting with others when the space in Nevada Way Plaza became available and they jumped at the opportunity to make their dream of a store come true.

There’s a special room, christened the “Hen Den”, where they hope to have customers come in and spend time learning from one another while working on their various projects. The comfortable room is set up with a soft couch and lovely rocking chairs for a relaxed experience. This will also serve as the classroom when that part of the business is up and running.

Chrystal and Karissa showcase some of their inventory and personal projects on social media. You can find them on Facebook HERE, Instagram HERE, and TikTok HERE. They also can be reached during store hours at (702) 429-3131. Let’s get stitching, Boulder City!
