There are some really excited student athletes and coaches at Boulder City High School this fall. Thanks to some local contributions of funds and other resources, the former dingy weight room has been transformed into a state-of-the-art training facility for our high school athletes!
We talked to Chris Morelli, the Varsity Football Coach and he showed us around the facility.
He explained that the need for them to have an updated modern training facility was huge, because most of our student athletes play multiple sports throughout the year. So they have little to no ‘off season’ for concentrated weight training, like what you might have in larger schools.
He said the old training room was a downer atmosphere, and none of the students wanted to be there, and it was negatively impacting their training time.
So, he gathered his info of what they would want and the estimated costs, and started pitching the idea. He went to the Boulder City Sunrise Rotary Club, and wow did they respond – with over $10,000 in donations right on the spot to get started!
Then he got some help from B & H Construction, as well as some labor from virtually every coach at BCHS: Coaches Ruth, Moore, Bailey, Cox, Balistere, Reese and Roe all helped work to get the new floor done, along with the support of Assistant Principal Brownson.
And now, they’ve got this brand new facility that the students love so much, he says they have to actually tell them to go home!
Coach says the pressure is on – their first game is only 3 weeks away, so it’s not a lot of training time before our athletes compete. We’re thrilled to share this great news, and wish all of our students and coaches a successful year!
