Expectations are that Lake Mead’s water level will drop from its current 1,083.5 feet to 1,073 before year’s end, triggering the first-ever federal shortage declaration. But what happens then?
In short … once Lake Mead has reached the shortage level of 1,075 feet above sea level, Nevada will have to reduce its river use by 4%, while Arizona will need to reduce its use by a whopping 11%.
