Audio Walking Tour of BC Historic District

Sundial Park Sidewalk in Boulder City, NevadaFan Christy Springgate-Hill hollered out that Public Works was busy putting in a sidewalk around the mural in Sundial Park (which I didn’t even know the park was named that, btw) and you know I HAD to know the scoop of why the mural was getting a sidewalk border.

I checked in with Public Works and they said it was to provide ADA accessibility for a new project the Boulder City Museum and Historical Association was doing. So I check in with BCMHA and SURPRISE … it’s really cool scoop!

Seems that they’re producing an audio walking tour of the Boulder City Historic District where tourists will be able to use their mobile devices to listen to audio, view photos and watch videos of historic information at each of 10 stops along the route.

The tour will be free and uses On Cell, which over 2 million people subscribe to and which the National Park Service, Smithsonian Institution, and many other cities and organizations use to give information. And check this out — when users of On Cell visit Hoover Dam, their tour will direct them to Boulder City to take our tour and learn more about the history of the town that built it.  Super cool when you consider that Hoover Dam gets a million visitors on their tour every year!

We’ll have a lot more info for you when it’s ready to roll out … late spring / early summer is the estimate.  But the quick and dirty is that it is a tour people can do in under an hour (depending on how long they linger at each stop) and it starts in the lobby of the Boulder Dam Hotel and travels through/by Hotel Plaza, Wyoming, Nevada Way, the Water & Power Bldg, the Reclamation Bldg, the Turbine in the park and City Hall (among other stops) … ultimately ending inside the museum located on the second floor of the Boulder Dam Hotel.

And the tour then refers visitors on other ways to explore Boulder City – where to eat, stay, have an adventure, shop, etc.  More on that as it is developed (and I’ll talk my way into screenshots).

So there you have it — why there is now a sidewalk around the mural in Sundial Park AND the scoop on a new historical walking tour rolling out in the next few months!
