Many of you won’t know about this hidden gem in Boulder City, but we’re thrilled to let you get a look inside of Paul Hagen’s personal getaway and his love of all things cameras. In the back of the Auto Specialists location owned by Lee and Paul Hagen (located at 705 Juniper Way) in what used to be their former Parts Department is a camera museum!
Still in-the-works, Paul puts in time every week collecting, researching, cleaning and displaying hundreds of different types of camera equipment.
Paul has set it up as it’s own 501c3 non-profit, completely outside of their busy auto repair business. They can accept donations and Paul says that when he has duplicates in equipment he will sell off items as well. There is no charge to walk through, simply ask. But any donations or sales from the museum will benefit the ‘Breaking The Cycle’ program, in which both of the Hagen’s are very active in. (If you’re unfamiliar with that, read more HERE.)
Paul started collecting cameras back in the 90’s as a hobby when they were still located in Minnesota. Paul has collected now over 500 cameras of various eras in the technology. He finds treasures on eBay and garage sales. he repairs what he can and has certainly ‘Frankensteined’ many an old camera into working condition. But he also has some real finds that any photographer or student of the art will appreciate. When you visit, ask him to point out which piece of equipment was used on the film set of ET!
If you have an interest, or just maybe want to learn more, swing by for a nice quiet visit to this local treasure, and take in some living history. Paul will be happy to show you around!
