The Angels Have Landed at BDCU

My friend Eric Estes, manager of the Boulder Dam Credit Union, once told me that I could use anything he wrote for the Boulder City Review column…this seems like an awfully good article on which to spread the word…

Angels in Boulder City, NVOver the years, there have been hundreds of men, women and children here in Boulder City who, through no fault of their own, experienced some hardship that resulted in their needs being hung from the Angel Tree in the lobby of the Credit Union. From there, an angel of their own reached out and provided help.

As I have mentioned many times before, the last two years has taken its toll on many local individuals and families. The Angel Tree unfortunately has never had a shortage of families in need but the numbers have increased significantly in the last three years as jobs have been lost and the basic necessities of life are out of reach for many. Last year as I reviewed the list of families on the tree, I noticed several that had been angels in the past and now were in a position of need.

During the next week, the Angel Tree will again make its appearance in the lobby of the Credit Union. And, as has happened every year before, the angels will come. They will be retired couples looking to help young families. They will be young families teaching their children the meaning of kindness and generosity. They will be school children surprised that there are other children who simply want a pair of jeans or a warm coat for Christmas. They will be passersby that didn’t intend to stop, but when they noticed an elderly couple on the tree in need of food and clothing, couldn’t resist the opportunity to be an angel.

Do I believe in angels? Yes.
