31ers Reunion Luncheon & Educational Outreach ~ Oct. 13th

31ers Family in Boulder City, NevadaWhen I did the post back in August about the Boulder City 31ers Heirloom Hollyhock having been made the official flower of Boulder City (click here for a refresher), a few Fans asked what a “31er” was…so here is a little bit of info, access to a cool full booklet explaining more AND an invitation to the 56th Annual 31ers Reunion Luncheon & Educational Outreach Showcase for ya!

Whew…now that was a seriously long run-on sentence!]

First up: What is a 31er?

Originally, a “31er” was the term used for a person who arrived in Boulder City in 1931 for the building of Boulder “Hoover” Dam and Boulder City. Over the years, the term incorporated the generations of those first families who made their homes in Boulder City. The term “31er” now incorporates anyone who has lived in Boulder City for 31 years.

While most of the original dam workers who came to the Boulder Canyon Project in 1931 (31ers) are no longer with us, the family members of those first 31ers and members of the community gather annually to continue sharing the stories of the building of Hoover Dam & Boulder City, at the 31ers Reunion Luncheon.

At the bottom of this post, you’ll see the front cover of a really nice little booklet that has been put together with a lot more information…so just scroll all the way down to the bottom and click on it to open a larger PDF version (or just click here).

Second: An Invitation to the Luncheon

This is being held on Saturday, October 13th from 10:00am – 2:00pm, including an open forum to meet and speak with families of the 31ers to kick things off. All of the information about the event is on page two of the invitation, which you can see by clicking on the picture below and going to the 2nd page. Enjoy!
