Lower Lake Water Levels Lead to Ramp Changes

The National Park Service has announced that due to falling water levels at Lake Mead, there will be reduced lanes and temporary closures at some of the boat launches at the lake. Specifically, beginning today, Hemenway Harbor will have one launch lane available on pipe mat. Additionally, a temporary closure of Hemenway Harbor on May 22 for two to three weeks will be necessary to install additional pipe mat.

This means that boats longer than 25 feet should consider launching at other locations. Boulder Harbor can be used for access, but visitors should check availability as Boulder Harbor may close in mid-June. Boaters may still access Lake Mead at Callville Bay and Echo Bay.

At Temple Bar, one launch lane on pipe mat will be available beginning the week of May 23rd. Again, boats exceeding 25 feet in length should consider other launch locations.

The temporary closures and reduced lanes are unfortunate, but necessary, and could last several weeks as the National Park Service installs and repositions pipe mats to extend boat ramps in these areas. Allow for extra time and always check your surroundings when using these facilities.
