Local artist and creative, America Grafton, has formed an artists’ group, Mojave Art Collective, to educate others about the local endangered species through art. She plans to gather various artists and create murals that will be displayed at local businesses to showcase the unique wildlife and landscapes we all love here in Boulder City.
The creation of the art collective is “…inspired by her combined interests in the environment and art. America is determined to make a positive impact on her community and the wider world. She feels that education is the first step in environmental conservation – and what better way to showcase this than through art? America advocates for environmental art because it is something that anyone can interpret and understand!”
Ms Grafton is a 2020 graduate of Boulder City High School and currently attends Hamilton College in New York. She is majoring in Environmental Studies with plans to graduate in 2024.
To further her goal of educating artists and the public, she has scheduled a series of lectures to be held at the Boulder City Library, 701 Adams Boulevard. The lectures are geared to specific age groups, as noted. The schedule is as follows:
- AGES 2-8 Conservation Basics: July 12, 14, 16 from 10:00AM to 11:30AM
- AGES 9-13 Developing an Understanding: July 19, 21, 23 from 1:00PM to 2:30PM
Please note that masks are required for the above in-person events.
- AGES 14-ADULT: July 31 from 3:00PM to 4:30PM via Zoom
Furthermore, Ms. Grafton is offering to paint murals on the exterior walls of businesses at no cost to the business. The business will then be featured on the website with a short bio and photograph. Her goal is to “support and encourage future business, tourism and conservation.”
Interested artists and businesses may contact Ms. Grafton HERE.
To follow the progress of the Mojave Art Collective, they have created two social media spaces. The Facebook account can be found HERE and the Instagram account can be found HERE.
We wish Ms. Grafton and her fellow artists all the best as they work with the community to raise awareness about local endangered species through the Mojave Art Collective while producing works of art we can all enjoy.
