Denise Ashurst Runs for Nevada Assembly

Denise Ashurst, local businesswoman and resident, has announced her candidacy for Nevada Assembly District 23, which includes Boulder City. She is a 20-year veteran of the Air Force and formerly worked for the Department of Energy for 13 years. She IS currently Founder and President of Pride in Purity, an international ministry for girls, and an author as well. She is running for election as a member of the Republican Party.

Ms Ashurst was born and raised in a low-income family in Yonkers, New York. She studied at the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandise before joining the US Air Force. She served for 20 years in various roles and duty stations before moving on to the Department of Energy. Upon retirement from the DOE, she founded Pride in Purity in 2005. She is the mother of three children and one granddaughter.

Ms Ashurst’s primary goal in her campaign is to restore the moral fiber to the community and state. She is a strong advocate for school choice, the economy and fiscal responsibility of the state, racial unity, crime reduction and security. She considers herself a unifier, able to work with people from various backgrounds and mindsets to achieve goals and objectives. In her background of airfield management, she learned important skills that lend themselves to coordination, organization and effective communication. Her attention to detail and ability to focus on multiple priorities will be a benefit to her politically.

“I firmly believe the best way to learn is to listen,” Ms Ashurst said during a recent interview. To that end, she holds weekly listening and engagement sessions in front of Boulder City Company Store (located at 525 Avenue B) each Tuesday at 9:00AM. She invites residents to stop by and share concerns and talk with her.

If elected, Ms Ashurst plans to work with city officials in her capacity as state legislator to help with local issues as well. She is a firm believer in being a voice for her constituents and would continue to work across the aisle to find solutions to problems faced by the state.
