The City of Boulder City recently announced the hiring of Joseph Stubitz as the Utilities Director. He began his job on Monday, January 4. The position was open since last year and Public Works Director, Keegan Littrell, was performing the job in the interim while the city sought a permanent replacement.

If Mr. Stubitz looks familiar, it’s because he’s a former athlete and valedictorian from Boulder City High School’s class of 2003. He grew up here in Boulder City, before leaving for college at Colorado State University, where he earned dual degrees in Engineering Science and Liberal Arts. He holds a professional license in Engineering in Nevada.

“Utilities Director is a critical role on the City’s leadership team, especially at a time when the sustainability of Lake Mead is so important to us all,” said Taylour Tedder, City Manager. “Joe comes with outstanding experience working in the Lower Colorado River Basin and we look forward to his insight and expertise on utilities management.”

Joe has multiple years of experience working for the Bureau of Reclamation, including being responsible for the review and update of standard operating procedures for Hoover Dam. He also managed recommendations for the Power Review Information System (PRIS) for the Lower Colorado Basin Region, insured that Hoover, Davis and Parker Dams were providing quarterly updates, and commissioned a new generator step-up transformer and unit breaker at Davis Dam in 2018.

“Being born and growing up in Boulder City, I was extremely fortunate to experience all that this vibrant community has to offer. Boulder City is unique in the surrounding area in that we own and operate our electric distribution system. When I saw the opportunity to give bac to my hometown in a professional capacity, I became very excited at the possibility of joining Team BC,” Joe said.

We look forward to his leadership in this new role and welcome him back to Boulder City!
