“We’ve got people that are starving and such massive needs that we can’t keep pouring money into this.”
This is what Commissioner Steve Sisolak has said about the over $15.7 million that Clark County has put into efforts to protect the desert tortoise.
And with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service estimating that approximately 95,000 adult tortoises are living in the 11,000+ square miles of tortoise habitat (covering four states), there seems to be some question as to whether they are as threatened as the federal government maintains.
