After what probably seemed like forever to the single Animal Control Officer (Officer Ann Inabnitt) on staff since Spring — the shelter is now fully-staffed and then some!
A big welcome, A.J. Brooks, who just started her tour of duty as our new Animal Control Officer last Thursday, replacing Ann – who was promoted into the AC Supervisor role left vacant when Mary Jo Frazier departed about 6 months ago.
And it gets better — the shelter has become busier than it’s ever been over the past six months, so Jenny Silvia, a longtime volunteer, has also been hired as the part-time Kennel Supervisor. Jenny works two shifts, the first at 5am to open the kennels up for the day (that includes feeding, cleaning and interacting with the shelter animals) and then she returns at 5:30pm to close them down for the night and tuck everyone in. With more than 12 hours of “outside time” for the dogs – it simulates more of a home environment as they await to reunite with their humans or prepare for eventual adoption.
But wait … there’s more! Eight volunteers are in the final stages of background checks and will soon start in rotation at the shelter to make a difference in the lives of the animals during their stay.
There won’t be any immediate changes to the shelter’s days or hours of operation, as the new staff is in training – but expect that to change before the year is out when the shelter will be able to go back to being open 7 days a week! Welcome, Ladies!
