Ranger Program: Ready, Set, Wear It, July 7
Join rangers from 1-3 p.m. July 7 in a world-wide record attempt for the most life jackets worn as part of a National Safe Boating campaign. Rangers will be at the Cottonwood Cove Marina with a variety of life jackets and family friendly activities. Come take a photo while wearing a life jacket and learn safe boating tips. Join a ranger at the Lake Mead Visitor Center at 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. July 18 to learn how human caused sound can alter nature’s soundscape. Hands-on activities and a listening kiosk with videos will be available throughout the day. For more information, call 702-293-8990.
B-29 Superfortress Bomber Film Debut and Panel Discussion, July 21
On July 21, 1948, a B-29 Superfortress Bomber crashed into Lake Mead and has remained underwater for 70 years under the custodianship of the National Park Service. A panel of experts will be at the Lake Mead Visitor Center from 10 a.m. to noon July 21 to discuss why this aircraft and its mission were so significant. Guests will also be able to view underwater footage of the aircraft and some of the artifacts that have been brought to the surface. Space is limited for this commemorative event. Learn what rangers do daily to keep the recreation area operating. Youth can become a Junior Ranger by completing a booklet about Lake Mead National Recreation Area.
