We’ve been hearing rumors around town that The Homestead of Boulder City would be undergoing some changes, so we reached out to the Director, Leila Hegle to get the official word.
Right now what they can tell us is that beginning April 15th, the establishment will no longer be an ‘assisted living’ environment. The memory care wing has already begun the processes of being closed down and residents are being moved into other centers to receive the care that they need. The plan ongoing will be that the center will become simply independent senior living for residents aged 55 and older. As of now it is uncertain exactly what additional services, such as the dining room or any organized activities, will continue beyond that time.
One rumor that has been circulating is that the building will be sold, but so far as much as we’ve been able to determine that does not appear to be the case. Also note, that Quail Ridge which is next door will no be affected. What remains will continue to be managed by the Volunteers of America non-profit organization.
We’re sad to lose this resource here in town, and don’t know the exact reasons for this coming change. However we’re grateful to the folks who have managed this operation over the years and what they have done for the community of Boulder City. We’ll keep you posted as we learn more.
