The City of Boulder City recently is seeking public input for the location of a landscaped dog park located at Veterans Memorial Park. Before continuing further, it is important to understand these four facts:
- The existing dog park at Veterans Memorial Park is operated by See Spot Run, not the City of Boulder City. See Spot Run is a volunteer organization and you can find out more about the park by reading our story HERE. They can always use more volunteers and donations.
- The previously proposed location at Veterans Memorial Park Field #3 (softball field) is no longer being considered.
- The current proposed location is on city-owned land within the Veterans Memorial Park complex. It is not being proposed for the state-owned land where the Department of Veterans operates a large cemetery for military veterans.
- Due to drought conditions, no sites can or will be considered that require the installation of irrigation or turf.
Okay, having gotten those facts on the record, the City is currently proposing a new location for the dog park over in the general area of the Fishing Pond and Boat Pond, adjacent to Pratte Field, where soccer games are held. This area has ample parking and a nearby restroom facility for visitors.
To find out more about what residents would like to see, the City has created a brief survey HERE for you to complete and share your feelings on the issue. City Council and City staff feel it’s very important to receive feedback from dog owners, other users of the park, and residents at large to help them come up with a realistic plan to create a park our fur family will love and be safe in.
Please take a moment to submit your survey results right away. The deadline for comments is August 14, 2022. According to the City’s website:
The City has launched a survey and webpage to view the proposed area at www.bcnv.org/dogpark. The page also has a five-minute survey to gauge interest in the park, how often it would be used and what amenities residents would like to have with the location. The survey will be open until August 14, with the results to be presented to the Parks and Recreation Commission at their next meeting. Council will receive the results and recommendations in September.
