Boulder City’s First Responders Honored at Dinner

Police Fire Awards Dinner Boulder City, Nevada

Last night, June 30th we had the pleasure of attending the 2nd Annual Boulder City Police and Fire Award Ceremony, held at the Boulder Creek Pavilion.

In a packed house we were treated to remarks from both our Police Chief Timothy Shea and Commander Aaron Johnson from the Boulder City Police Department, as well as Fire Chief William Grey and Deputy Chief Gregory Chesser.

But more important than the dinner and the obvious camaraderie in the room were the stories that were told as the award winners and honorees were recognized. Our police officers, 911 dispatchers, EMT’s and fire fighters see more than we all realize at times. They have helped the homeless and lost, sometimes with money from their own pockets, and spent time researching and finding their out of state family so they can be reunited. They have helped find a suicidal teenager and stopped him from harming himself, spending hours on the search trying to locate the youth, and talking him into the open with the help of one of our local K-9 officers. They diffused a traffic stop that turned into a suicide by cop attempt (along with the help from an off-duty K-9 officer from Henderson) and saved that man’s life – for which he later expressed gratitude. They worked tirelessly performing CPR on a 2-year-old little girl who had fallen into the family pool and while she ultimately perished, having no oxygen to her brain for over 15 minutes, it gave the family time to donate her organs. Then you have the EMT fire crew who intercepted a call with several injured children who realized that they were being abused and worked with BCPD to get them to safety without alerting their abusers. These are just a sample of what we heard.

The Boulder City Police Department is a rarity in our area in that it is currently 100% fully staffed. However community support, volunteers, and citizen involvement is always welcome. We were honored to be in attendance to meet some of our wonderful men and women who serve our community with such dedication. Thank you!
