NPS Seeks Public Input for Lake Mead Plan

NPS Lake Mead Input Boulder City Nevada

The National Park Service (NPS) is seeking further public input on the Sustainable Low Water Access Plan (SLWAP). The next opportunity to do so is the week of July 10. In 2022, there were 1049 public comments submitted in the first round of public scoping in the winter of 2022.

The public has the opportunity to discuss the various options being considered. There will be one virtual meeting and two in person meetings – one in Boulder City and the other in Kingman. The dates and times for the meetings are as follows:

  • Virtual – Monday, July 10, 2023: 5-6 p.m., Pacific Standard Time
  • Boulder City, NV – Tuesday, July 11, 2023: 5-7 p.m. Pacific Standard Time at Boulder City Recreation Center; 900 Arizona St., Boulder City, NV
  • Kingman, AZ – Wednesday, July 12, 2023: 5-7 p.m., Pacific Standard Time at the Beale Celebrations Building, 201 N. 4th Street, Kingman, AZ

Interested parties can also submit comments online by clicking HERE. Readers will find more information about the proposals being considered, as well as earlier planning efforts.

“We are excited to move forward with the next phase of public engagement with our local communities and stakeholders,” said acting Superintendent Mike Gauthier. “We have received critical feedback to date, we have carefully considered what we have heard from you, and we look forward to working together to find the best path forward for preserving boating access.”
The current planning “focuses on maintaining visitor services, marinas, and launch ramps at Hemenway Harbor, Callville Bay Marina, Echo Bay, Temple Bar Marina, and South Cove to the extent feasible,” according to a recent press release. The meetings will include a presentation about the preferred action alternative that preserves boating access should the lake drop to 950 feet.
The public is encouraged to attend one of the meetings or to submit comments online. The online comment period ends August 4, 2023.
