He’s new to the position, but he’s not new to City employment! Outgoing City Manager, Taylour Tedder, announced yesterday that Gary Poindexter, a long time City employee, was appointed to the position of Public Works Director. The position was recently vacated by Jamie Curreri, who left to take a job in the private sector.
Gary came to the City as a temporary Street Maintenance Worker straight out of high school and has worked his way up to Streets Division Supervisor, Public Works Superintendent, Public Works and Utilities Superintendent and his newest position, which he will assume on Monday, May 13, 2024.
Gary is a long term resident of Boulder City as well, having moved here as a child. He graduated from Boulder City High School in the 1990s. He studied at College of Southern Nevada, University of Nevada Las Vegas and University of Phoenix, and holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Business with a focus on public sector administration. Gary’s unique experience working in the Public Works Department in various roles for nearly 30 years, gives him particular insight into all facets of the department’s operations.
“This journey, from the ground up, culminated in my appointment as Public Works Superintendent in 2010 which turned into Public Works & Utilities Superintendent in 2011 until 2018, when the departments were separated again,” Gary said. “I appreciate this opportunity and am eager to bring my diverse skill set, expertise, and drive to the executive team.”
Gary makes his home in Boulder City with his fianceé, Katy. He has two children, Sabrina (20) and Tyler (17). Katy has one son, Trenton (15). Tyler and Trenton share the home with Gary and Katy, as well as two dogs, Thor and Hunter.
