News from Around the City

We have news and notes from around the City to share with residents and business owners.

Playground Upgrades

The City of Boulder City Parks and Recreation Department recently announced that they have ordered new playground equipment for several parks around town. Due to supply chain issues, the equipment isn’t slated to arrive until Spring 2024. But the new equipment will be installed as quickly as possible.

“We recently completed improvements to Hemenway Park,” said Roger Hall. “We added a Whirly Q Spinner and two new swings.  One of the swings is an inclusive swing that allows more accessibility for all children. The basketball court was also upgraded with a new modular playing surface. Our goal is to upgrade all the playgrounds in town over the next few years.”

“Over the past six years, as we’ve replaced older equipment, we’ve been installing items that are built for better accessibility and comfort,” said Julie Calloway from Boulder City’s Parks and Recreation Department. “All children should be able to enjoy our playgrounds in a safe, inclusive manner. We’re glad that we can provide that in our parks!”

There are seventeen parks within the department so freshening them all up will take some time. We sure are looking forward to the improvements!

Capital Improvement Program

The Finance Department is seeking opinions from residents on priorities in the Capital Improvement Program. Residents are encouraged to go HERE to complete a short survey about which projects are most important to them. Make sure you head over to share your thoughts. To qualify as a Capital Improvement Project, the following criteria must be met:

  • Improvement cost must exceed $25,000 or more. When determining the cost of a capital improvement, this includes the design cost, construction costs, and materials cost.
  • The project must be new or an upgrade to an existing asset, and not maintenance-related.
  • Must have a useful life of five-years or longer.

Take a few moments and consider what upgrades or changes you’d like to see in our city and share them with the Finance Department.
