The City of Boulder City is requesting input from citizens on the type of streetlight to be installed in residential sections of the city to comply with the Dark Skies initiative we told you about HERE. To that end, they’ve installed six different fixtures at Otono Drive and Del Prado Drive for residents to check out. Residents are asked to vote on their favorite style by completing a survey HERE. For the full effect of the lights, it’s best to visit in the evening. The winner will be the fixture installed throughout the city going forward (Historic District excepted).
These new lights not only reduce the amount of light pollution in the city, they are also eco-friendly and provide energy cost savings to the city.
You can find out more about the City’s efforts to receive an International Dark Skies Association (IDA) designation by clicking HERE. The IDA is an international organization dedicated to educating the public about light pollution through outreach, advocacy, and conservation. You can learn more about their efforts HERE.
