The National Park Service has extended an invitation to children and their families to become Junior Rangers at Lake Mead National Recreation Area on Saturday, April 23, 2022. The FREE event will take place at the Alan Bible Visitor Center grounds from 9:30AM to 1:30PM. This program allow children of all ages to learn how to protect parks with teaching activities.
During the event, activity stations will be spaced around the grounds of the park’s visitor center and the amphitheater. Children of all ages and abilities are encouraged to come to the park and learn about Lake Mead National Recreation Area. Some of the activities include:
- Identification of various plants and wildlife
- The BARK Ranger Program
- How to become a park volunteer
- Skills required to become a Park Ranger
- Water and fire safety awareness training
Current fourth grade students, including home-schooled students, who attend the program should bring their paper copy of the Every Kid Outdoors pass. This pass allows them and three guests free admission to more than 2000 public lands, including Lake Mead Recreation Area and 400 other National Parks between September 1, 2022 and and August 31, 2023. Masks are not required, but may be worn if the individual chooses to do so. Clothing and shoes appropriate for warm weather and outdoor environments are suggested and don’t forget to bring water!
