Job Summary:
Desert Adventures is an outdoor adventure tour company based in Boulder City, Nevada. Our focus is connecting people with nature through experiences and education. We offer a variety of tours including paddling, hiking, biking, and scenic tours. We also operate an instructional program with courses in SUP, kayaking, canoeing, river safety and rescue, CPR / First Aid, and Wilderness Medicine. While guides may specialize in one area, they are expected to support and cross-train in other disciplines. We have one of the most comprehensive guide training programs in the area. Candidates with less than 2 years of previous river guiding experience are required to complete our Guide School, or prove they possess the required technical skills. Guides will lead outdoor trips, assist in river launches/retrievals, shuttles, and transportation to/from Las Vegas hotels. Responsibilities include maintaining and cleaning equipment and coordinating logistics.
Qualifications:
Applicants must be outgoing, enjoy educating a diverse audience, confident in a leadership role, and have a passion for nature. In addition to a working knowledge of the natural history of the area, qualified applicants must also have excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to entertain the clients. Strong communication and public speaking skills are a must. Experience with multi-day camping and desert travel is important. Must be willing to work long hours in harsh environments, be physically fit, and able to lift 50+ lbs overhead. Guides must demonstrate solid work ethic, possess high standards, and be patient, detail-oriented, and extremely organized. Qualified applicants must be able to make proper decisions quickly and work calmly in tense or chaotic situations and be efficient within a team. Preference will be given to those with WFR, WEMT, ACA or BCU Rescue certifications. You must always act in a professional manner, and dress according to your job function.
Two years previous guiding experience on fast moving water is highly desired. Applicants with no prior guiding experience can gain the necessary skills by enrolling in our Guide School (additional fee). Scholarships may be awarded to qualified applicants.

SEASON: Desert Adventures operates year-round, with our peak season being February through November. Candidates do not need to be available year-round to be considered for employment, but you must be available during peak season.
TRAINING: Meeting minimum competency levels for guiding is the responsibility of the applicant. Students will have access to resources such as equipment and instruction (at no cost) to obtain the necessary skills to pass the required guide tests and safety evaluation. Logged hours or previous guiding experience may be presented in place of certain training requirements. Upon successful completion, you’ll become eligible for employment with Desert Adventures.
