In this case, the silver is the Silver State Legacy Program Award! According to the Nevada Recreation and Parks Society, this award is given to programs and events:
“…which have endured the test of time and have become iconic to those who have attended and participated in these programs. Designation as a Silver State Legacy Program is the highest accolade the Nevada Recreation and Park Society can bestow upon a program. These programs and events play an important role in the development of and relationships within a community. These programs promote cooperation, social interaction, education, the arts, and more.”
Jennifer Spinkelink submitted the application for consideration for the City’s Damboree Celebration. This coalition between the City and the Damboree Committee volunteers has provided memorable fun for residents and visitors since 1995. Prior to the formation of the Damboree Committee that year, the Damboree events began in 1949 and were hosted by American Legion Post No. 31. The Jaycees and Elks also occasionally produced the event as well. It is an event that the residents eagerly look forward to each year.
“We are honored to accept this award, which is truly a team effort,” said Roger Hall, Boulder City Parks and Recreation Department Director. “So much of the success we have as a community comes from amazing partnerships and collaboration with organizations and volunteers. The Damboree Committee is dedicated to honoring the history of Boulder City and our great nation every year, teaming up with City staff to host 15,000-20,000 people for an amazing parade and fantastic fireworks show.”
We want to congratulate the great folks over at the Parks and Recreation Department for winning this prestigious award!
