The Boulder City Police Department will be offering a Non-Enforcement Driver Education this Friday, October 29th, as part of a driver impairment awareness program. Officers will be on foot in the downtown area to talk with bar patrons about the dangers of driving over the legal limit. The Boulder City Chamber of Commerce and Police Department staff reached out to local businesses about this program and the restaurants and bars were very receptive to the idea.
“It is amazing to me how many DUI drivers I have arrested who honestly believed they were far under the limit, but actually were quite impaired,” says Sergeant Tiffany Driscoll. “We hope this is a good way to start conversations and help people understand the impact of impairment.”
The officers will be stationed throughout the downtown area. Additionally, the Community Policing Tent will be set up at the corner of Nevada Way and Arizona Street, beginning at 5:00PM. Patrons can guess their blood alcohol content (BAC) and win prizes. Officers will also be providing water and coupons for a ride-share.
Two locations – Boulder Dam Brewing (453 Nevada Way) and The Dillinger (1224 Arizona Street) will continue to offer blood alcohol content breath tests for a $1 donation going towards charity, as they have in the past.
